Danse Macabre: Little Zion Underground

Starting at: $75.00

The Danse Macabre is a traditional genre in European art dating back to the late medieval period. Danse Macabre reminds us of the egalitarian nature and universality of death. An old tradition finds traction in the deep south: Little Zion Underground depicts Little Zion Baptist Church outside Greenwood, Mississippi, the final resting place of blues legend Robert Johnson. Death and impermanence haunt us, laughing and lending urgency to the expression of our spirit through music, art and dance. Shaded by a giant pecan tree, it is not difficult to imagine Mr. Johnson continuing the party underground. Printed in permanent black on archival quality paper, Danse Macabre: Little Zion Underground will remind viewers to dance-while-they-can many generations after we are long gone.

Original Piece is on paper. 2012.
